About this tool
Useful when you need the words rather than the document — for quoting, searching, or pasting into something else. A PDF stores glyphs at coordinates rather than sentences, so line breaks are recovered from the layout the file describes and the visual arrangement of columns and tables is not preserved.

Questions
- Do my files get uploaded to a server?
- No. This tool runs entirely inside your browser tab. Your file is read into memory, changed on your own machine, and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is transmitted, so there is nothing on our side to store or delete.
- Why did I get nothing back from my scanned document?
- Because a scan is a picture of text, not text. There is no text layer to extract. Reading the words out of an image needs OCR, which is a different job and one this tool does not do.
- Will the layout be preserved?
- No. You get the words in reading order with line breaks, not columns, tables, or formatting. If you need the layout, converting to Word is the closer fit — that tool is not built yet.
- Does it work without an internet connection?
- Once the page has loaded, yes. The processing code runs locally, so you can disconnect and the tool will still work. That is also a simple way to verify the privacy claim for yourself.
