Flatten a filled PDF form

Flatten PDF on ilovspdfs draws a filled form's answers permanently onto the page and removes the interactive fields, so the next person to open it cannot change them. It runs in your browser. A PDF with no form fields is refused rather than re-saved.

About this tool

Once a form is filled in, the values still sit in editable boxes — anyone who opens the file can retype them, and some readers show a warning about unsaved changes. Flattening merges the answers into the page itself, which is what you want before emailing a completed application or filing a signed copy.

How to flatten a filled PDF form

  1. 1Open your filled-in PDF form.
  2. 2Check that the answers you expect are shown.
  3. 3Download the flattened document.

Questions

Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely inside your browser tab. Your file is read into memory, changed on your own machine, and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is transmitted, so there is nothing on our side to store or delete.
Can the answers be edited after flattening?
Not as form fields — the boxes are gone and the values are part of the page. A determined person with a PDF editor can still alter the page itself, so flattening is about preventing accidental changes, not about tamper-proofing.
Why does it say my PDF has no form fields?
Because there is nothing to flatten. Rather than re-save the file unchanged and let you believe something happened, the tool stops. If you wanted to stop the text being selectable, convert the pages to images instead.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Once the page has loaded, yes. The processing code runs locally, so you can disconnect and the tool will still work. That is also a simple way to verify the privacy claim for yourself.
